Translated by Bernard Cafferty from the original Russian edition of 1929.
A small booklet and  a fascinating account of this prominent revolutionary's early chess career and Soviet chess in the 20's buttressed by 50 of his games from his entire career including his immortal sacrificial win over Capablanca (then reigning World Champion).

Ilyin-Genevsky was a prominent pre-revolution figure in Russian chess and also a true Bolshevik. This is a personal account of his career, which gives unique insights in life in Russia before and after the 1917 October Revolution. The author was wounded and shell-shocked in WOI and killed by a Nazi bomb nearby Leningrad in 1941.
