CHESS OPENING IDEAS – NOVELTIES – BOOK REVIEWS – THEORY – DISCUSSIONS – GAMBITS

Forum
Readers from all over the world join in discussions of previous surveys. Titled players, correspondence players and club players shed their light on opening developments and search together for the truth. With contributions by Pavel Smirnov, Georgy Timoshenko, José Vilela, the incredible Bulgarian talent Kirprian Berbatov and many others.

Sosonko’s Corner
This Corner is fully dedicated to the memory of the recently deceased David Bronstein. Sosonko takes a closer look at King David´s contributions to opening theory, which reveal many aspects of the exceptionally fertile mind of the former vice-World Champion. The story is, of course, brimming with anecdotes that no-one but Sosonko could tell you.

Book Reviews
A treat for bloodthirsty players, this Review Section! Glenn Flear pronounces his verdict on Everyman´s new ‘Dangerous Weapons’ series: on the Nimzo-Indian (by Emms, Ward and Palliser) and on the Sicilian (Emms & Palliser). Even more dangerous may be the subject of Hannes Langrock: the dreaded Morra Gambit! Flear overcomes his doubts on this gambit and commends at least the work by the young German theoretician. For slightly lower-rated readers Flear recommends the prolific John Watson’s new project for Gambit, ‘Mastering the Chess Openings: Volume 1’.
