Sosonko's Corner
He who has not tasted the steel of a sacrifice on f7 or f2, has not tasted chess. Genna Sosonko presents in his Corner new upsets, but shows that there are other weaknesses too, and not only in a game of Chess960! Featuring fresh and old stories, from youngsters Carlsen and Radjabov, to mysterious names like Khalilbeili and Rubel…

Book Reviews
Several publishers are completing coverage of all French variations as we speak. Glenn Flear compares them in his Reviews. But first he takes a good look at Konstantin Sakaev’s new book on the 7.Bc4 Grünfeld and Konikowski/Soszynski’s monograph on the KI Four Pawns Attack. The Four Pawns Attack is an occasional choice of Flear himself against the King’s Indian. Konikowski/Soszynski’s new book covers mainly 6…c5 lines. The authors’ analysis level doesn’t match that of a Sakaev, but as an insightful reference book this one will please not only club players.
The comparison of Sam Collins’s ‘the French advance’ with Steffen Pedersen’s ‘French: Advance and Other Lines’ reveals some interesting insights. Pedersen’s ‘Tarrasch Variation’ also gets a look-over and is laid side-by-side with Psakhis’s legendary ‘French Defence 3.Nd2’. Just read this review and you will have a good hunch which ‘French Collection’ should be yours to get.
