Update on the process of closing down the NIC Apps
The New in Chess Group and Forward Chess have made an agreement, where we have taken a minority stake in Forward Chess, and will be closing down the New in Chess Apps. It is a process that will take long time to manage technically. This is what you should know.
The NIC Apps will be functional until the transfer is complet
DON’T PANIC IF ALL YOUR BOOKS ARE NOT TRANSFERRED YET!
There are 50 books that people have entitlement to on the NIC Apps, as well as past magazines, which are not yet on Froward Chess. You will be able to access them on the NIC App until all have been transferred to Forward Chess. We will give a list of these titles below, when people are back from holiday early November.
We will announce the closing of the NIC Apps in good time and only when we feel in full control of the transfer of entitlements. We will also announce when all books that were on the NIC App are available on the Forward Chess App, so you can ensure that all your entitlements are fulfilled.
We have transferred your entitlements to Forward Chess
Your basic account details have been shared with Forward Chess. Not your financial details. Forward Chess is a very small company, with no links to other companies. Your details are safe and your entitlement is fulfilled.
- If you for some reason do not want an account at Forward Chess, you can simply delete it. Your details will be deleted with it. This is obviously irreversible.
- If you already had an account with Forward Chess with the same email, your entitlements should have been combined. If this is not the case, contact us and Forward Chess.
- If you had an existing account with Forward Chess, with a different email, Forward Chess can merge the two accounts, should you so desire.
- If your purchases in the NIC App have been through a Google or an Apple app, your entitlement details are not known to us. These companies do not share your details with us.
What does lifetime access actually mean?
An important thing to understand regarding this situation, is that “lifetime access” refers to the lifetime of the product, not you. We are not obliged to provide access for 75 years, but to provide you with access, as long as the products exist.
For this reason, it is fair and decent that we in this reorganisation transfer your entitlement from the NIC App to Forward Chess. It is a reasonable balancing of the legal and moral rights of both parties, and we have used a lot of resources making this happen.
If you for any reason do are not satisfied with the replacement of your entitlement from the NIC App to Forward Chess, you are not due compensation. We are replacing your experience with a similar experience. We have more than met our legal and moral requirements, and we have had significant financial cost making sure we met them. The lifetime of the NIC App is ending and with it your entitlement. For us to transfer it, is reasonable behaviour, and will not leave you worse off.
