Jan Timman was one of the world’s leading chess players from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. At the peak of his career he was considered the best non-Sovietplayer and was known as ‘The Best in the West’.
The highlights of Timman’s career include wins against the greats over many decades: Kortchnoi, Karpov, Topalov, Short, Spassky, Smyslov, Tal, Larsen, Najdorf, Bronstein and Kasparov. Every game is introduced to familiarize the readers with the backgrounds. They are annotated in the author’s trademark lucid style.
In 1994 Timman published a collection of 80 games in Chess the Adventurous Way (also known as Timman’s Selected Games). Only 10 games of that selection have made it into this book.
Jan Timman is the former number 2 in the World Rankings. He met and defeated the greatest players over a period of more than 50 years.
